Fernanda Froes

  • Fernanda Froes is a visual artist born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and living in Miami. Her artistic practice revolves around the connections between ecology and colonization. Through her research at the intersection of art, science, and history, Froes highlights the importance of preserving the Americas’ natural and cultural heritage. Froes’ artistic process frequently begins with drawing, which diversely evolves into a combination of media, including paint, fiber, printmaking, text, and illustration. In her new body of work, she has been researching and experimenting with natural pigments such as Brazilwood, which originated from a tree that gave the name to her country, Brazil. Froes recently participated in solo and collective shows in São Paulo, New York, and Miami: Ancient Spanish Monastery; Feria Clandestina; Parodi Costume Collection; Brazilian Consulate in Miami; Doral Contemporary Art Museum; MIFA – Miami International Fine Art Museum, among others. She’s been working with visual arts and exhibited works in Lisbon, Milan, and Rio. Froes has degrees in Graphic Design and Industrial Design from Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. She worked as an art director in multinational advertising agencies and has been working as a graphic designer for 20 years, being issued in Brazilian and international publications. Froes is currently pursuing an MFA at Miami Art Institute (MIUAD). She is a member of The 55 Project, Uncool Artist International Art Community, and FAMA (Fiber Artist Miami Association).
