Lavinia Góes
Born in Rio and raised in Brasilia, Lavinia Góes has lived and worked in Paris since 2009. In her work, the artist explores some aspects that intersect: the fabrication of color, the chair as an object of research and the idea of spaces in containers; she creates colorful paintings with strong strokes in watercolors and acrylic paint on wood panels or canvas. Used intuitively in her daily practice, the color clearly reveals her cultural identity. In other words, her tropical side, but also the fact that she is a foreigner.
À Table

"À Table" is a mixed media painting with acrylic paint on linen canvas that is part of a series that explores all the elements of the artist's pictorial repertoire to the full. Four chairs compete for space on the canvas with the large containers, such as vases and bottles, around the red table, the most prominent focal element of the work. The position of the chairs, which are not around the table, reveals a certain disorder, as if the characters had already left their seats after a meal. An attempt to balance and a desire to belong, as is the reality of those who live far from their affections. These affections are celebrated through the manufacture of the color ochre with the turmeric pigment from Brazil and through firm, almost festive gestures.

Her work as a whole reveals a deeper need to belonging in her choice to live far away from her affective references. For the artist, the chair is the visual translation of the intersection between her two professional practices: art and design. She has been a graphic designer for over 25 years, but it was during her Fine Arts degree that she discovered her passion for technology, which led her to pursue a career in this area. In her paintings, the chair takes the place of an object or a space that accommodates the body, but also her ideas, colors and gestures. Containers delimit the space of the canvas in the form of jars, bottles or vases inspired by her own memory. In 2023, the artist took part in ten fairs and exhibitions, as well as winning the Grand Prix at the Salon de Printemps of Independent Artists in Ville d'Avray, France. In 2024, she was the only Brazilian artist in the official program of the Nuit Blanche in Paris.
